Homemade Fabric Freshener @MyShannonagains

Okay, I’m guilty! I know I posted a schedule ages ago and haven’t been back since. Sorry. In my defence though I have been pulling my hair out with my other blog, www.ouchwtf.com . I am trying to teach myself how to build a blog or a couple of blogs from scratch and as soon as I think I have it figured out BLAMO it SNAFUs again. So following the schedule will come soon but in the meantime I’m just going to post some fun crafts, DIYs, Hacks and all other kinds of cool stuff. So out of desperation, since I am not nose blind. Try the recipe I use for homemade fabric freshener, aka homemade Febreze.

Here is the first cool post.     smiley2

Homemade Fabric Freshener

Life hacks and knockoffs are great, I love them. Not only do they save you money but there is a sense of pride when it comes to useful or decorative things that you have made yourself.

Are you like me and have animals, kids and a husband that refuses to take off his smelly socks? It just isn’t feasible to run out the store to buy Febreze on a daily basis. So here is a recipe to make your own, and it works great!

  • 1 spray bottle, I used an empty “no-name” fabric freshener bottle

    homemade fabric freshener ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of liquid fabric softener, again I used a generic brand
  • 1 heaping tsp. of baking soda
  • 2 cups of warm water

That’s it, easy peasy. Mix them all together in the spray bottle and shake, shake, shake. Then spray. I was actually really pleasantly surprised at how well it did work. I went back to give it the sniff test about an hour later so I knew that the smell of the fabric softener wasn’t stuck in my nose and was really pleased with how well it worked. Even this morning, about 20 hours later I’m still happy with the outcome.

*Before you spray something that you don’t want to replace like your carpet or your chesterfield do a test spray first. I personally have not had a problem with staining however I have seen liquid fabric softener stain certain clothing fabrics so it is always better to be safe than sorry.

For best result keep the dog, kids and the husband with the smelly socks out of the living room and the lovely fresh scent will last indefinitely. Ha if only. Let me know how this worked for you, the homemade fabric freshener spray, not keeping them out. {lol} Do you have or know of another hack that you’d like to either try or share with other people? Let me know and we’ll give it a try.
